IMAGE GUIDELINES

Reports and photo gallery
It is important to first use an image editing tool (Photoshop, etc.) before uploading any images.  Images from digital cameras are too large for the web and must be reduced before they can be uploaded.  They must meet the following requirements:

Image size and orientation - Images should be no larger than 7 inches high and 5.25 inches wide unless you have been told otherwise.  Smaller images can be used but the preferred length to width ration should be 4 to 3.  For example, other acceptable sizes would be 6x4.5, 5x3.75, 4x3, etc.

Resolution and type - All images should be 72dpi and saved in the JPG format preferably using "web resolution" settings.  72dpi is the standard for web resolution images.

Naming - The images should be named yyyymmdd_nn.jpg where "yyyy" is the year, "mm" is the month, and "dd" is the day the photo was taken.  The "nn" is used to distinguish between multiple photos that were uploaded on the same date.  For example, if three photos are being uploaded for the same date, their names would be 20080328_01.jpg, 20080328_02.jpg, and 20080328_03.jpg.  These names will be easy to remember when attaching the photos to a report or adding them to the gallery.

Logos for links, resources, and sponsors
Logos can be located on the web or provided by the owners.  Most logos will already have the correct web resolution, but they will have a variety of sizes.  Determine a maximum acceptable width for your logos (typically 2 inches or less) and use an image editing tool (Photoshop, etc.) reduce all logos to this size before uploading.

Resolution and type - All images should be 72dpi and saved in either the JPG or GIF format preferably using "web resolution" settings.  72dpi is the standard for web resolution images.

Naming - The images should be named (renamed) logo_name.type where "name" is the name of the logo (lowrance, simard, etc.) and "type" is the image type (.jpg/.gif).  Examples would be logo_lowrance.jpg, logo_simard.gif, etc.  These names will be easy to remember when attaching the images to a link.
